District-Wide Focus Points from 2009 Election

Hold the Line On Unnecessary Spending and Taxes
Over the last two years, our property taxes have gone up at an unsustainable rate of over 11%. While our homes and retirement money have lost value, many people have also lost their jobs and those on a fixed income struggle to remain in Fairfield. This is no time to increase the financial burden on our taxpayers. We will push to hold the line on taxes so our residents can keep more of their own money in their pockets. Our taxpayers have been forced to do more with less in these times and so should our government.

Demand Transparency from the Board of Education
The Board of Education makes up two-thirds of the town's entire budget, while their spending receives little oversight. We will push for increased transparency from the Board of Education in regards to all of its deliberations and decisions, with a primary focus on ensuring that it spends your tax dollars responsibly and appropriately in its annual budget and for school building projects, such as the Fairfield Woods Middle School expansion.

Stay Intimately Involved in the Next School Redistricting
With a likely school re-districting to take place over the coming year - which will affect much of District 1 - we, as RTM Reps, will stay informed of the process and advocate for keeping our neighborhoods intact while addressing the school space challenges in a fair, reasonable, and responsible way.

Advocate Long-term Planning Solutions
Fairfield is a wonderful place to live with a rich history and assets we are all proud of. Yet problems persist because they are addressed with short- term measures and solutions with little regard to longer-term strategic planning. We will push town leaders to make capital planning and investment decisions that are sustainable over the long-term and that will benefit future generations.
